Discovering the Healing Power of Art
In 1999, Denise received hand-made art lesson coupons from her Aunt Catherine who had a little studio tucked away amid the trees of Lacombe, Louisiana. Having never taken a class or lesson before, Denise was surprised to discover that art could be more than a mere hobby– it was a powerful expression of one’s place in the world.
In 2014, amidst her life’s biggest challenges and greatest losses, Denise committed to become a full-time artist. She began with a painting-a-day project that launched not only a career, but a path through grief and a means to healing.
During the 2020 pandemic, she relocated to Pass Christian, Mississippi where she now runs a gallery dedicated to her late Aunt Catherine.
She finds never-ending inspiration on the Mississippi Coast where the birds that are so often the subject of her work grace the landscape, inviting her always to see the world’s beauty in light of its brokenness.
